Larry the Seagull

Hey yall! Hope everyone is staying all bundled and warm! It got pretty cold this week! I tell you I was pretty surprised to see this week it got down to about -20C. But I survived haha. Anyways here's what happened this week:

Highlights:

-We met lots of people this week in the Victoria 1st Ward. So we are getting quite familiar with the area!

-Guess I'm kinda a Spanish Missionary? Most of our friends that we are teaching are the old Spanish missionaries friends. Since me and my companion don't speak any Spanish, a service missionary here on the Island is helping us out all the time. It's almost like we are in a Trio with him haha. He is even going to teach us a bit of Spanish!

-Training! Elder Jung is doing so great! He is definitely a lot more confident than I was when I first came out! He led his first lesson this week and it went super well!

-Jordie came to church again! We haven't been able to find a time to meet with him yet, but we are hoping for this week!

-We befriended a seagull and named him Larry. He watched us through the window of our apartment playing card games for over an hour haha.

-Even though it got super cold, we got absolutely no snow!

Otherwise we spent a whole lot of the week figuring out the area. Since us, the Sisters we area share with, and the Service Missionary don't know the area too good, it was a lot of coordination. But things are starting to get rolling. We are already starting to see miracles! For example, tonight we are meeting with our friend Yalui. He speaks little English, but he has been taught everything and is almost ready for Baptism! Excited to teach him!

Anyways, heres the spiritual thought for this week:

I've been reading through 1 Nephi this week in conjunction with the Come Follow Me for this year. One observation that I made is a new found perspective on Laman and Lemuel. I feel we always look at Laman and Lemuel as the villains of this story. How they are always doing everything wrong. But however that really isn't the case in the beginning. In Jerusalem, Laman and Lemuel were, like Nephi and Sam, "taught somewhat in all the learning of [their] father." (1 Nephi 1:1) They were taught from their youth to fear God and to keep His commandments. Laman and Lemuel had their moments of rebellion, and also righteousness. I compared them to a lot of us who grow up in the church. We are taught from the testimony of our parents, we go to church, we do the things we are 'supposed to do'. However the big difference between Laman and Lemuel, and Nephi, is that they never sought God in humility. Laman and Lemuel stuck to logic, such as it makes no sense for us(a wealthy family) to go and wander in the desert for the rest of our lives just because father said so. However Nephi sought the bigger picture. The higher perspective. He saw and understood the purposes of the Lord even though he did not have a complete understanding. But he allowed his faith to guide and change him! Just a little thought I had this week!

Anyways, that's all for this week! Take care y'all, and stay warm!

Haawa!

-Elder Biesinger

Unfortunately I took absolute no pictures this last week, but don't worry I'll take some this week!
