Hey yall! Hope yall had a great week! It seems like winter is pretty much over here in Victoria! Blue skies and warmer temperatures! Anyways, heres what happened this week:
Highlights:
-Exchange
with Elder Mackenzie! We had a great exchange. An inactive member
invited us over to teach his friend Moises! And it turns out this
inactive member is also the brother of our friend Tina! So great things
on that exchange!
-Maple beans and spaghetti mixed? It's actually really good. A bizzare but good meal we had this week!
-I made a pork roast this week, and it was fantastic!
-On
P-day we went to an animal exhibit and got to see some cool animals!
Elder Sewell(The Spanish missionary) was able to tell us a lot about the
animals since he used to serve in Honduras.
Lowlights:
-I was pretty sick this week, but don't worry I'm all good now.
-I
don't know if this classifies as a low, but we went running this
morning, and I actually enjoyed it! And I found myself missing running a
bit. I don't know how haha.
Anyways, this week
I studied a lot about Tithing. And how important not only Tithing is,
but the blessings that come from Tithing. And how Tithing changes us
more than changing the church. Elder Bednar gave a fantastic talk back
in 2013 titled The Windows of Heaven. He talks about the use of the word
Window as noted in Malachi 3:10. He says:
"The
imagery of the “windows” of heaven used by Malachi is most instructive.
Windows allow natural light to enter into a building. In like manner,
spiritual illumination and perspective are poured out through the
windows of heaven and into our lives as we honor the law of tithing."
This
really stuck out to me. I've noticed blessings from paying my Tithing,
but you always hear the stories of people getting an increase in wages,
food on the table, etc. I focused too much on the big Miracles and
blessing I hear, instead of the small Miracles that come from paying a
full tithe.
Elder Bednar explained using an example:
"We
may appropriately desire and work to receive a pay raise in our
employment to better provide the necessities of life. Eyes and ears of
faith are required, however, to notice in us an increased spiritual and
temporal capacity to do more with less, a keener ability to prioritize
and simplify, and an enhanced ability to take proper care of the
material possessions we already have acquired. We might want and expect a
larger paycheck, but the blessing that comes to us through heavenly
windows may be greater capacity to change our own circumstances rather
than expecting our circumstances to be changed by someone or something
else."
God truly works by Small and Simple
means. The Prophet Nephi constantly spoke of how the best way to learn
and grow is simple, little by little. The law of Tithing is no more than
this. The small, yet significant blessings that come from keeping a
full tithe can be so much greater than we could ever know in the eternal
scheme of things. My testimony of tithing as President Nelson said:
"Tithing is not about Money" had shown me that it is about faith, and
diligence, and it's a wonderful opportunity to grow!
I
invite you all to look back on the small, yet significant blessings the
Lord has given to you for paying your Tithing! I say these in the name
of Jesus Christ, Amen!
Anyways, have a great week y'all! Take care and I'll talk to y'all next week!
Haawa!
